Our Deepest Roots
Welcome to NorthWest Roots, an online store and concept that is near and dear to my heart and has been my own little labour of love! I’ve always loved being creative and exploring unique and memorable ways to speak to consumers. I truly adore being surrounding by beautiful fresh and forever florals and Canadian made local goods and growth so, why not create something we can all enjoy together?
For as long as I could remember my husband and I have always had a thing for small towns, we simply love the warm welcoming vibes you get when visiting them. With most small towns come adorable, must stop in little shops - often known as the local general store! That’s exactly where our NorthWest Roots General Store vision was born! We brought together our love for local goods and our passion for collaborating with super unique and cool brands in an all-in-one shop where you can indulge in lovely Canadian Made goods and growth for your home, kitchen, bath and of course pieces for your very own little mini. The best part is we’ve stayed true to our love of homemade gift boxes, giving you the option to browse our curated boxes or create a custom box for someone special (and you)!
Why Canadian? To us, it’s simple, having travelled and lived in a few different Canadian provinces for both work and adventure one thing we always loved (aside from the spectacular views) was meeting and supporting local makers. This is why we chose to feature some makers and pieces from Canadian places that are near and dear to our hearts, places that truly tell a story for us. Whether it’s Hockley Valley, Ontario, where we got engaged almost 5 years ago, Vancouver, British Columbia where we’ve had the pleasure of visiting many times and absolutely love the vibe, Toronto, Ontario where we grew up, currently reside and are raising our very own little mini or Calgary, Alberta where it all began and where our name ‘Northwest Roots’ was born.
Why our name? This is a question we get A LOT and one we truly love answering because it comes from our heart! You’ll notice with every item we have in the shop we’ve listed it’s ‘roots’, the origin of where each product and brand is from, many of which are places and brands that personally mean so much to us! Roots is significant to where each brand is from and the roots that keep us all together, our local Canadian roots! The meaning behind NorthWest is extremely significant to us, after having lived in the Northwest of Calgary nearly a decade ago we truly fell in love with this part of Canada and although we made the extremely difficult decision to move back home (Toronto, Ontario) our hearts, forever friendships and unforgettable memories never left! In 2017 our love for one another and our very own love story in the rockies brought us right back to where it all began, the beautiful Canadian Rockies in Banff, Alberta. This is the very place where we exchanged our vows surrounded by so many family and friends at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, our very own castle in the rockies - it was and will forever be our little piece of heaven! Shortly after our wedding we began our journey - NorthWest Roots, a vision that over the years has continued to flourish and grow!
